Society for News Design: international organization for news media professionals and visual communicators

The Society for News Design Foundation, created in 1992, is the nonprofit education and research effort of SND.

With support from donations and matching grants, the Foundation provides training grants for visual journalists, university-level scholarships, travel grants for students to the Annual Workshop & Exhibition, grants to the student designers of the year, and outreach to minority journalists and journalism students at universities with diverse enrollments.

The Foundation also provides research grants for projects on the future of journalism developed in partnership with other journalism organizations.

he mission of the Society for News Design is to enhance communication around the world through excellence in visual journalism. To that end, the Society will:

• Promote the highest ethical standards in all of our crafts
• Champion visual journalism as an integral discipline
• Educate journalists on a continuing basis
• Celebrate excellence in all aspects of journalism
• Encourage innovation throughout our industry
• Provide a forum for critical review and discussion of issues
• Value our unique and diverse international and multicultural character

Bylaws of the Society for News Design
The Corporation is organized exclusively for education, charitable and scientific purposes as meant within Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, which include the following specified purposes:

To enhance the quality and availability of news graphics and design education; to contribute, through education and research, to the news design and graphics profession; to develop and improve, through education, the capabilities of those who have an interest in careers in the news design and graphics profession; to take such actions as are appropriate to these purposes.

SNDF Scholarship
This award is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors at any accredited four-year school worldwide. The student must be a member of SND. The scholarship goes to a deserving student interested in and showing promise for pursuing a career in visual journalism.
